Bringing the Joy!

JOY is one of my favorite words. Perhaps because it is so closely related to my last name (Loy) or because it is filled to the brim with anticipation, hope, fun, laughter and freedom!

The joy I feel is not about just being optimistic, or happy. I can certainly look at my circumstances and let fear overwhelm me (Just like the shepherds in Luke 2). However, the news of great joy is found in my relationship with Jesus.

If you have found life in Christ, and the freedom of the Holy Spirit, you find joy. It's called the JOY of the Lord! “The fruit of the [Holy] Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, [and] self-control” (Galatians 5:22–23).

As Christians and Singers, we have such an opportunity to spread the JOY of Christmas, share the Good News, and bring a others a special sense of joy they so need to experience!

So proclaim like the angles, tidings of great joy!

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is one of my favorite JOY carols! Take a dance around the kitchen and know that Jesus is yours this day!

A little History of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"

John Audelay, an Augustinian monk known as Blind John, wrote some of the earliest English Christmas carols. On his deathbed in 1426, he put together a collection of his writings, including his carols.

Although none of Blind John’s carols are sung today, “God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen”whose author is unknown (but not likely Blind John)dates to that period.

The tune is mentioned in Charles Dickens’s classic, A Christmas Carol, published in 1843, where the singing of this song so annoyed the miser that “Scrooge seized the ruler with such energy of action, that the singer fled in terror.”

Now, if you’re like me, maybe you’re not a big fan of change. I’m a creature of habit, comforted by the things that...
