Hey Singers! A little reminder this week about vocal tension! Every voice carries tension somewhere at some point. It doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong — it just means you’re human. Remember, our whole body is part of our instrument, so tension can sneak in anywhere. Sometimes it shows up in your throat. Sometimes it’s your jaw, your face, or the way you’re holding your shoulders. If you’re playing guitar or piano, your body position can add strain without you even realizing it. Even holding a microphone can make your shoulders creep upward and tighten everything around your neck. The KEY is simply finding where the tension is hiding.A few gentle exercises can release your jaw, relax your throat, and let those muscles reset. Little by little, your voice learns a new, freer pattern. And remember — excellence in worship isn’t about perfection - it's about passion and precision. A heart fully engaged and a body working with wisdom and repetition. When those two come together, your voice becomes the beautiful instrument God designed it to be. You’re doing better than you think. Keep going, keep growing, and keep singing with your whole heart! Christine P.S. Back by popular demand: Free Summer Vocal Workouts with Christine! While that spontaneity feels good in the moment, we often carry that same "Que Sera, Sera"—whatever will be, will be—attitude into our singing. (For my younger readers:...
September 2025 When Worship Feels Hard, That’s When It Matters Most Tomorrow maybe raw... This has been a heavy week — for our country, for us as Christians, and honestly, just as humans. You might feel raw, angry, or overwhelmed with emotion. And yet, if you're scheduled to lead worship tomorrow, you’re expected to be “on” — smiling, confident, full of faith. But inside? It might be a different story. As worship singers, we often believe we have to lead from the mountaintop. But the truth...
